From Croissants to Crookies: Conquering the 5 Best Bakeries in (and around) Denver
Colorado has exploded in growth over the last few years. And while that comes with its challenges, one major benefit is a huge expansion of the culinary scene. Combine that with thousands of people honing their love and skills of baking during the pandemic, Colorado has become blessed with bakeries! From sourdough havens to pastry peddlers, these 5 bakeries have become the best at their craft.
Bakery Four
From its humble beginnings as a cottage bread maker, Bakery Four has made its mark on Denver. When they first opened their quaint (but busy) little bakery in the Highlands, people lined up in the snow and cold for hours just hoping to grab some goodies before they sold out. (Myself included in 7 degree weather) And that was when they were limited by space and only offered some loaves of artisan naturally leavened bread and a handful of pastries.
Now they have been able to expand into a bigger space nestled in the Tennyson shopping district, where they not only dole out the absolute BEST Herb Boule and currently a Ferroro Roche Cruffin, but they have expanded to sandwiches and creating their own homemade pastas. Their famous Garlic Herb Knot could be what just won them the BEST OF DENVER “Best Bakery” for 2024. (I get it every time!) Bakery Four is one of the options for our Treks then Treats Tours.

2. poulette BAKESHOP
While this unbelievable bakery may be a bit of a drive outside of Denver, it is without a doubt completely worth the trek. Located in Parker, Colorado, their slogan is “we are artisan bakers trained by the best chefs in the world” and it absolutely shows! It’s bakery meets French patisserie producing some of the most beautiful pastries in Colorado. You have to get there early to get the goods because they sell out fast. The creations that come out of that kitchen are mind meltingly good. (I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a coveted Panettone they were selling over the holidays.)
They offer loaves of naturally fermented bread along with creative and stunning pastries like their passion curd, mango jam and vanilla cream stuffed croissants, along with eclairs, chocolate pavé and brightly colored macarons. (To name only a few.) When I say go now, I mean now….your only regret will be not having gone sooner.
Check them out in Parker at 9585 Hess Rd #107, Parker, CO 80134 on Wed-Sat from 8-2pm
3. GetRight’s Bakery & Plant Shop
Launching in February of 2020, I first discovered getRights during the pandemic when they delivered the best Focaccia outside of Italy to my doorstep along with a heavenly slice of their Chocolate Babka. Now they make the most irresistible Roman style pizzas and sandwiches with their beloved focaccia, served alongside Viennoisserie breakfast goodies and delectable pastries and tarts. Not failing to mention their signature sourdough and baguettes.
Their Maritozzi is creamy and dreamy, alongside their beautifully burnt Basque cheesecake. The line stretching out the door merely hints at the abundance of decadent treats that lie in wait within. And as the name states, they are not only a bakery, but a stunning plant shop adorned with bright green foliage. So don’t wait on visiting this local gem located in Wheat Ridge right on 38th.

4. Reunion Bread
Two words: Croissant Cookie…..Crookie!! This is the genius behind Reunion Bread, the internationally inspired bakery located inside the Source in the Rino District of Denver. They don’t miss a beat when it comes to beauty and creativity with their bakes. Their Golfeado (Venezuelan Sticky bun) is other-worldly, a sweet yet still somehow savory treat is a delight for the senses and that alone will keep you coming back over and over.
Reunion’s breads are even a site to behold, particularly their Olive Za’atar Sourdough. Their Columbian Cacao Mille is perfection along with the Pastel De Nata, otherwise known as a Portuguese custard tart.
Always inventive and stunning, this bakery is worth the hype and worth the visit. Check them out at 3350 Brighton Blvd #140, Denver, CO 80216 Tues-Sun or Book one of our Treks then Treats Tours!
5. BlackBox Bakery
What can be said about Black Box Bakery? They defy categorization. Their creations are wildly imaginative and, as they say themselves, "spaced out" in the best way possible. While Black Box does offer some tasty sourdoughs, their signature creations are mostly made up of laminated dough, from traditional croissants to out of this world strawberry lychee croissant cubes and ube cruffins, with their flavors rotating regularly to keep you guessing as to what they will come up with next.
Black Box makes a world of their own, pushing boundaries of what people expect from a traditional bakery, exploring and experimenting with flavors and fillings. And most importantly always keeps it exciting .
You can find these cosmic confections in the Edgewater neighborhood of Denver inside Edgewater Public Market. Check them out at 5505 W 20th Ave, Unit 182, Edgewater, CO 80214 Wed-Sun or Book one of our Treks then Treats Tours!
